Kate St James

With more than 40 years of experience in the design world and 16 as editor-in-chief of several of Australia’s leading home magazine titles, Kate St James has spent her career designing, photographing, editing and creating beautiful spaces and images. Kate believes that everyone has the right to experience good design, whatever their budget and that affordable art should form part of every interior space. Kate has a love of colour, abstract patterns, city, country and streetscapes and captures these with her detailed eye for the perfect image, turning them into artworks showing the beauty found in her local environment.

My background as an interior designer and magazine editor provided the vehicle to progress into creating art.  I studied at East Sydney Technical College and the New York School of Interior Design…Art allows me to express my view of the world through colour, texture and form; it’s a natural adjunct to my interior and product design work.

Catherine Whitting

Catherine Whitting completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts majoring in Painting at Sydney College of the Arts. Her work is held in over 25 private collections throughout Sydney, Regional NSW, Northern Queensland, The Northern Territory, Christchurch New Zealand, and England. Whitting employs an impasto style of painting in her artmaking, she weaves bold tactile colours with mixed media, such as newsprint and found objects in a three dimensional manner with fast sweeping motions. Her paintings are curated for interiors, emotive and executed with speed.  Elements of wear and notions of time are celebrated through colour, form and texture.

I am captivated by the personal experience that is almost meditational when time disappears and colour and texture are transformed  into a physical experience of inexpressible emotion. The journey of artmaking is a important as the end result.  Inspiration comes from subconscious moments, memories of travel, sensations of textural and eroded nature and the people in my life that inspire me to continue the journey of artistic exploration.
