 YOGA at home in the time of Covid19 – a soulful journey

During this trying time, many of us are finding life more stressful than ever. And while we may have more time on our hands, knowing what to do with that time can be a challenge and it can be difficult to focus.

For centuries, yoga has been practiced as a way of toning the body and settling the mind. Yoga can decrease stress, while providing strength
and endurance. Yoga may lower blood pressure, improve posture and circulation, and provide a sense of wellbeing. What’s not to love?

Our Inked Up yoga mat and yoga pants feature an original design by Catherine Whitting. An original artwork with Indian ink on watercolour paper was inspired by design tours in Kyoto Japan and the study of fonts and symbols in ancient calligraphy. Kate and I adore translating art onto all things design and launched our Activate Art to Wear range at Azures Den Wellness and Lifestyle store in Cabarita and our online store! Particularly fun in covid to wear gym wear outdoors! Takes you from boot camp to dinner with the change of a top!

Our most recent translation of INKED UP has been in the winter warm merino wool wrap that has crystal clear clarity on the Indian Ink and transforms any outfit into a celebration of monopop, leather handbags, scarves and apparel. Cushions to match your artwork are made only to order with a social enterprise company VIDA, who contacted us to joint their signature artists in creating art to wear –  ( VIDA is also my grandma’s name whose portrait I painted for my year 12 HSC major artwork)… for the luv of art we just keep having fun!

The next journey of this indian ink artwork was to travel into the design studio of Designer Rugs where Kate and I worked with the team of in house designers to translate INKED UP into a bold clean, textured rug made from 100% wool with Bamboo Highlights. Kate and I worked through hundreds of rug tufts to curate together the perfect monochrome palette for our rug design that is soft yet bold underfoot .

Here is the original  framed artwork; Japanese Ink swept across paper with the sweep of a metal hair comb ripping through the white ground in an abyss of white space, floating wild and free.  My art making process is about capturing memories in abstraction, taking meaning from the everyday and translating that into a fabric of imbedded memory
